July 2008

Well we’re now at lock up…. well, the building is locked at least. Not sure if that is the same thing! There is still some roof tiling to be completed and the bricks on the south side aren’t quite complete, but its very very close to being complete! There is a bit of water inside the building, which is never good, but we don’t think it will be a problem. It is just a result of them having not quite finished the capping on the roof, and we’ve had an awful lot of rain over the last couple of days!

What a difference a week makes!

We were thrilled to come back from holidays and have a frame, but only a week later to have a fully tiled roof, with all the gutters complete and a substantial amount of brickwork done is just ACE!

At the moment the brick work is just around the front of the house and down the side of the garage. There is a single course at the back of the garage, so it looks like they’re doing that next. The work all looks very nice, with all the right expansion gaps, ties and nice raking. All looks pretty good. Mind you, I’m a programmer… not a brickie!

The roof tiles appear to mostly done, with only the caps on the top left to finish off by the looks of it. Of course the big surprise is UNDER the tiles.

The heating unit has already been installed and all the vents(?) are up in the roof going to all the separate rooms.

If that wasn’t enough to get us excited, all the wiring in the house has been laid out, along with gas lines, water, tv and telephone cables! As an extra added bonus we even have a couple of baths!

If i wasn’t so busy with work, I’d head to the block and deliver the builders a slab of beer. At this rate, we’ll be at lock up in no time!

EDIT: We’ve just heard from our lovely CSR that we should be at lock up THIS WEEK!!

Well after a short absence, we’re now back from our Vietnam holiday! When we left we had a slab, and now we have a completed frame! To say we’re happy would be an under statement! We had a good look around this afternoon, and although I am not a builder, everything looks pretty good to me. We’ve been very lucky that dad has been keeping tabs on it while we were away, and he’s happy with the structure also… at least he knows a bit more about these things than we do!

So without further delay, here are some pics of our frame!

The other house being built by Urbanedge at Lot 1 is about half way through having its brickwork done. Ours and lot 14 both have rooftiles delivered and that looks like it will be starting this week! Everything is going along fantastically, and whilst we know these two stages are the “quick” stages, it’s still great to see so much progress!

Probably the best thing to see is how our alfresco changes are going to look. It’s going to be a really nice area to sit and have a bbq. Very happy that we made the change and widened the garage as well. Looks great so far!

It sounds as though the weather has been pretty average here in Melbourne while we’ve been away, so a big round of applause to the builders for still getting in there and getting the job done!
